45LB Ohio Power Bar - Stainless Steel

Buy Now · $405.00

The stainless steel Ohio Power Bar is Rogue’s benchmark powerlifting bar and a garage-gym favorite: a stiff 29mm, 205k-PSI shaft with virtually zero whip, a deep volcano knurl (with a center knurl for squats) that reviewers routinely rank as their favorite power-bar grip, and a bare-metal feel that the stainless finish keeps rust-free with no maintenance. It costs more than the black-zinc version, but stainless is the buy-it-for-life choice.

Buy it for the big three — squat, bench, deadlift. If you also want to Olympic lift or do high-rep CrossFit work, the multipurpose The Ohio Bar - Stainless Steel or the Colorado Bar with their 28.5mm shafts and softer knurl are the better all-rounders.

What is a Barbell?

What a barbell is

The barbell is the center of a strength gym — the bar you squat, press, deadlift, and clean with. A men’s Olympic bar is 20 kg (44 lb) and 7.2 ft long (15 kg / 6.5 ft for women). The specs that matter: knurl (the grip texture — aggressive for pulls, milder for high-rep work), shaft diameter (28–29 mm for barbell lifts), sleeve rotation (bushings are fine for slow lifts; bearings spin fast for the Olympic lifts), tensile strength (~190k+ PSI resists bending), and coating (bare steel grips best but rusts; stainless and Cerakote trade grip for corrosion resistance).

Which one to buy

For general lifting, a multipurpose bar (28–28.5mm shaft, dual knurl marks, no center knurl) does squats, bench, deadlifts, and the occasional clean off one bar — this is the right first barbell for most home gyms. Choose a dedicated power bar (29mm, stiffer, aggressive center-knurl grip) only once you know you’re training squat/bench/deadlift specifically and want the stiffest, grippiest tool for that job. A dedicated Olympic weightlifting bar (needle bearings, more whip) is worth it only if you clean, snatch, or jerk regularly.

Beyond your main bar, specialty bars solve specific problems rather than replacing it: a safety squat bar shifts load off sore shoulders, a trap/hex bar takes stress off a cranky lower back on pulls, and a curl bar’s camber reduces wrist strain on isolation work. Add them once you know which problem you actually have.

The stainless version of Rogue’s Ohio Power Bar fixes the one real weakness of the standard 45LB Ohio Power Bar — finish durability — and reviewers reward it accordingly: Garage Gym Lab scores it 9.4/10, and Garage-Gyms.com reports “literally no issues” after extended testing. Durability and build quality are the standout dimensions here: the uncoated stainless shaft needs essentially no maintenance, resists corrosion outright, and lets the knurl bite exactly as cut instead of being dulled by a coating. Functionality remains excellent for the big three lifts, though the same center-knurl tradeoff applies — this is not a CrossFit or Olympic-lifting bar. The main knock is value: at $395-435 it’s a real step up over the standard finishes, and the sleeves are still hard chrome rather than fully stainless.

  • +Durability: the stainless shaft needs virtually no maintenance and resists corrosion far better than bare-steel or zinc finishes (Garage-Gyms.com, VintageWeightsPGH 6-year review)
  • +Build quality: "one of the best power bars you can buy for the money... very well made" at 9.4/10 (Garage Gym Lab)
  • +Functionality: the uncoated stainless lets the knurl bite as-cut, widely called one of the best knurls in the category (Garage Gym Reviews)
  • +Value: IPF-approved and still praised as excellent value despite the $395-435 price tag (BarBend, Garage-Gyms.com)
  • Value: a meaningful step up in price over the standard black-zinc Ohio Power Bar ($395-435 vs. $250-315) (Garage-Gyms.com)
  • Build quality: sleeves are hard chrome rather than stainless, and grooved sleeves still produce an audible "zip" during plate loading (Garage Gym Reviews, Garage Gym Lab)
  • Versatility: the always-on center knurl rules it out for Olympic weightlifting and shirtless CrossFit work, the same limitation as the standard Ohio Power Bar (Garage Gym Reviews)
  • Durability: minor lateral sleeve play can create occasional clicking, though it doesn't affect performance (Garage Gym Lab)
