The Kensui AdaptaBELL is a plate-loaded dumbbell handle that turns standard weight plates into a pair of adjustable dumbbells without the awkward screw-and-collar overhang typical of cheap loadable handles. A flat end cap lets the plates sit flush against the handle, so the dumbbell rests flat on your thighs during seated work instead of digging in, and the profile stays compact enough that the screws don’t extend past the plates and interfere with range of motion. The Pro version reviewed here is built from fiberglass-reinforced nylon with a 34mm knurled handle and a SecureLock dual-locking screw mechanism rated for 10,000+ repetitions without loosening; it holds up to 70 lb per handle (140 lb per pair) and works with both standard 1” and Olympic 2” plates, the latter via a separate centering adapter. Kensui also sells an all-aluminum Max version with a higher 150 lb-per-handle capacity for lifters who want to go heavier or avoid the plastic screws entirely. Reviewers consistently note the tradeoff: it’s a secure, no-wobble, near-fixed-dumbbell feel once loaded, but changing weight is slow, so it suits home gyms building out a range of dumbbell weights more than it suits fast supersets.
