Hammer Strength Plate-Loaded Iso-Lateral Leg Curl

Buy Now · $3,694.00

The Hammer Strength Plate-Loaded Iso-Lateral Leg Curl is a commercial prone hamstring machine built around independent iso-lateral work-arms, letting each leg curl through its own diverging/converging path for balanced, symmetrical strength development rather than one leg compensating for the other. A 4-degree outward angle on the work-arms keeps the movement tracking a natural, joint-friendly path, while angled hip and chest pads peak at the hips to minimize the lower-back hyperextension common on other prone leg curl designs. The frame is 11-gauge steel with an electrostatic powder coat finish, built to commercial-gym duty cycles and backed by a 10-year frame warranty and 5-year bearing warranty. It’s plate-loaded across four storage weight horns (plates sold separately) and, at 285 lb with a 69” x 57” footprint, sized for a dedicated gym floor rather than a typical home setup.

What is a Machine?

What a strength machine is

A strength machine guides the resistance along a fixed path so you can train a movement safely, often without a spotter. The main types: selectorized (pick weight with a pin), plate-loaded (add your own plates for a heavier ceiling and better feel), and functional trainers / cable machines (adjustable pulleys for dozens of exercises).

Machines vs. free weights

Machines shine for isolation, safety, and high-rep hypertrophy, and for training hard alone. Free weights build more stabilizer strength and carry over better to sport. Most well-rounded home gyms use a rack and barbell as the core and add one machine — often a cable/functional trainer or a lat-pulldown/row — to fill the gaps.

The sub-types worth knowing

“Machines” covers several categories that barely compete with each other: GHDs for hamstring and posterior-chain work, belt squats for loading the legs without the bar on your back, leg press / hack squat combos for heavy quad volume, reverse hypers for posterior-chain work and lower-back decompression, cable towers and functional trainers for pulling movements, and row machines. Pick the one that fills a gap in what your rack and barbell already do. Almost nobody needs two.

Space and standalone vs. rack-mounted

Most of these come in a standalone version and a cheaper rack-attachment version. The attachment saves floor space and money, but often gives up stability or range of motion — a tradeoff worth checking on the specific product rather than assuming, since it varies a lot between designs.

A note on ratings

Machine listings frequently show a manufacturer’s own on-site rating, which runs high (4.7–5.0 is typical) and sometimes pools reviews across a whole product family rather than the exact configuration you’re buying. Where we have independent hands-on coverage, our summaries anchor to that instead, and say so on the product page.

The Hammer Strength Plate-Loaded Iso-Lateral Leg Curl is a commercial-grade prone hamstring machine, and the gym owners who’ve actually put it on their floor back that up: independent iso-lateral work-arms with a 4-degree outward angle track a natural path that reviewers say beats other plate-loaded prone curls, and the 11-gauge steel frame backed by a 10-year frame warranty earns its standout build quality rating. The weak spot is value relative to a home gym’s needs – it’s the lowest-rated dimension on GymRadar, one reviewer flags the large commercial footprint as a poor fit outside a dedicated gym space, and at roughly $3,700-3,900 with plates sold separately, it’s a steep single-exercise buy for anyone without the room and budget of a real facility.

  • +Functionality: independent iso-lateral work-arms on a 4-degree outward angle track a natural, joint-friendly path -- "gives a much better feel than most prone leg curl plate loaded machines on the market" (Joseph Fuino, GymRadar)
  • +Build quality: 11-gauge steel frame with a 10-year frame / 5-year bearing warranty backs up GymRadar's build-quality rating of 4.67/5 -- "really well built" (The Barn Barbell, GymRadar)
  • +Functionality: true single-leg iso-lateral curling corrects side-to-side imbalance -- "the single leg aspect is a big win" (Keith Honeycutt, GymRadar)
  • +Functionality: angled hip/chest pads reduce lower-back hyperextension and the machine "accommodates a wide array of body types" (Hammer Strength/Life Fitness catalog; The Barn Barbell, GymRadar)
  • Versatility: large commercial footprint (69" L x 57" W x 40" H, 285 lb) -- "likely not the best option for a home gym given the footprint" (The Barn Barbell, GymRadar)
  • Value: the lowest-rated GymRadar sub-dimension (3.67/5) against a manufacturer direct price of $3,694 -- steep for a single-exercise machine (GymRadar; Life Fitness Shop)
  • Durability: too little independent long-term ownership data yet -- only 3 GymRadar reviews and zero retailer customer reviews so far (FitnessZone; GymRadar)
  • Value: weight plates are not included, adding to the effective cost on top of an already commercial-grade price tag (Life Fitness Shop; Fitness Direct)
