The IronMind Hub is a pinch-grip training tool – a 2-7/8” diameter steel disc with a textured crinkle finish, machined to mimic the center hub of a classic deep-dish 45 lb steel plate. It’s a modern take on an old-school Strongman warm-up: lifting a plate off the floor by pinching only its center hub, the way “The Mighty Norseman” Karl Norberg used to test his grip. The Hub attaches to a loading pin (12” standard or 15” Olympic, sold separately) via carabiner, letting you load barbell plates to progressively overload the pinch.

It’s become a staple at grip competitions worldwide and part of IronMind’s Crushed-to-Dust! Challenge. Published difficulty standards give lifters a benchmark: 30 lb is “alright,” 50 lb is “excellent,” and 80 lb and up is “world class” – current hub-pinch world records sit at 44.80 kg (98.96 lb) for men and 26.36 kg (58.11 lb) for women. Reviewers and demo videos consistently treat it as a legitimate strength test rather than a novelty: one training-log video shows it humbling an experienced grip athlete with “big beefy hands,” and a Rogue Fitness customer calls the build “overbuilt.” The smooth crinkle finish gets slick with sweat, so most lifters chalk up before using it.

Youtube 4.5/5 4 reviews Training-log reviewer calls it genuinely humbling for pinch grip despite big, strong hands; three additional demo clips treat 100lb+ hub lifts as a recognized competitive-grip benchmark. Only complaint: the smooth crinkle finish needs chalk once hands sweat.

The IronMind Hub is a no-frills pinch-grip trainer: a 2-7/8” steel disc, machined to mimic the center hub of a deep-dish 45 lb plate, that you load via a carabiner and loading pin (sold separately) and simply lift by the edge. Functionality is the standout – reviewers and demo videos consistently treat it as a legitimate strength benchmark (30 lb is “alright,” 50 lb “excellent,” 80 lb+ “world class”), and one training-log video shows it humbling an experienced grip athlete with “big beefy hands.” Build quality also earns praise, with a Rogue Fitness customer calling it “overbuilt” and Made-in-USA steel construction. Versatility is the weakest dimension: the Hub ships alone, so a carabiner and loading pin are separate purchases before it is usable, and as a single-exercise tool it only trains pinch grip, not the crushing or support grip that complementary IronMind tools like Captains of Crush or the Rolling Thunder cover.

  • +Functionality: widely used as a legitimate pinch-grip strength benchmark, with published difficulty standards (30/50/80 lb) and world-record context (manufacturer, ironmind-store.com)
  • +Build quality: solid steel construction with a crinkle finish described as "overbuilt" by a Rogue Fitness customer
  • +Build quality: Made in USA (Rogue Fitness listing)
  • +Value: priced at $29.95-$36.95, inexpensive relative to other IronMind grip tools
  • +Functionality: genuinely challenging even for experienced grip athletes -- one YouTuber with prior crushing-grip training called it humbling (YouTube: training-log video)
  • Versatility: ships as the hub alone -- carabiner and loading pin (12" standard or 15" Olympic) are sold separately and required to use it (manufacturer)
  • Versatility: trains pinch grip only, not crushing or support grip, so it complements rather than replaces a broader grip-training setup
  • Functionality: the smooth crinkle finish gets slippery with sweat/moisture, so chalk is effectively required for consistent grip (YouTube: training-log video)
  • Build quality: no scored, written editorial review turned up in research (Garage Gym Reviews' page is spec/marketing copy, not a verdict) -- independent long-form coverage is thin
