KeppiFitness Barbell Clips OPENCOLLAR
The COT-2.5 is Ivanko’s original compression-ring training collar for 50mm Olympic bar sleeves. Instead of a rubber-padded lever clamp, a lever bolt tightens an internal steel band around the full circumference of the sleeve — Ivanko developed the mechanism in 1985 to hold several times more securely than a standard lever collar without denting or scoring the bar’s finish. The all-metal construction means there’s no rubber lining to compress or wear out over time, and the collar goes on and off with a partial turn of the bolt rather than the full unscrew/rescrew cycle of a threaded collar. Each pair adds 5 lbs to the bar (2.5 lbs per collar) and is finished in chrome-plated, machined steel. It only fits genuine Olympic (50mm) sleeves — not standard 1” or 1-1/16” bars.

Collars (clips) lock the plates onto a barbell’s sleeves so they can’t slide or rattle off — a safety essential, especially for pressing and Olympic lifts. The common types: cheap spring clips, quick lock-jaw / quick-release collars (the everyday favorite — fast and secure), and competition collars (precision-weighted, 2.5 kg each, for calibrated meets).
A secure clamp that won’t creep under drops or high reps, quick on-and-off operation, and a fit for your bar’s sleeve diameter (standard Olympic is 50 mm). For most home gyms, a pair of lock-jaw-style collars is the right balance of speed, grip, and price.

Ivanko’s compression-ring design is the standout here: instead of a rubber-lined lever clamp, an internal steel band contracts around the full circumference of the sleeve, so functionality and build quality are the two strongest dimensions — reviewers of the same pressure-ring mechanism (on the related spin-lock COC-2.5KG and the smaller COT-1.25) describe plates that simply don’t move, with no rubber to wear out over time. Value is the weakest dimension: at roughly $67–$77 for a 5 lb pair, it’s a premium price for a training collar against options like Lock-Jaws or spring clips, and the competition-grade spin-lock sibling drew an explicit “overkill for home use” verdict at its $150 price point. Coverage specific to this exact COT-2.5 SKU is thin — most independent commentary available covers the closely related COC/COT family rather than this pair by name — so treat the verdict as representative of the design line more than an SKU-specific sample.
