PLATE LOADED | Prone Leg Curl

Buy Now · $3,225.00

The PLATE LOADED | Prone Leg Curl is Prime Fitness USA’s hand-crafted, made-to-order hamstring machine, built around the brand’s Smart Strength resistance-profile system. Moving the loading pin among five settings lets a lifter shift where in the range of motion the resistance feels heaviest – the beginning (lengthened), middle, end (shortened), or a blend of two – so the machine can emphasize a deep stretch on one set and peak contraction on the next. As a dedicated prone leg curl it has no leg-extension pairing (Prime sells that as a separate combo unit). It ships fully assembled from the USA and is sold through a quote request rather than direct online checkout, in line with Prime’s commercial/semi-commercial sales model.

What is a Machine?

What a strength machine is

A strength machine guides the resistance along a fixed path so you can train a movement safely, often without a spotter. The main types: selectorized (pick weight with a pin), plate-loaded (add your own plates for a heavier ceiling and better feel), and functional trainers / cable machines (adjustable pulleys for dozens of exercises).

Machines vs. free weights

Machines shine for isolation, safety, and high-rep hypertrophy, and for training hard alone. Free weights build more stabilizer strength and carry over better to sport. Most well-rounded home gyms use a rack and barbell as the core and add one machine — often a cable/functional trainer or a lat-pulldown/row — to fill the gaps.

The sub-types worth knowing

“Machines” covers several categories that barely compete with each other: GHDs for hamstring and posterior-chain work, belt squats for loading the legs without the bar on your back, leg press / hack squat combos for heavy quad volume, reverse hypers for posterior-chain work and lower-back decompression, cable towers and functional trainers for pulling movements, and row machines. Pick the one that fills a gap in what your rack and barbell already do. Almost nobody needs two.

Space and standalone vs. rack-mounted

Most of these come in a standalone version and a cheaper rack-attachment version. The attachment saves floor space and money, but often gives up stability or range of motion — a tradeoff worth checking on the specific product rather than assuming, since it varies a lot between designs.

A note on ratings

Machine listings frequently show a manufacturer’s own on-site rating, which runs high (4.7–5.0 is typical) and sometimes pools reviews across a whole product family rather than the exact configuration you’re buying. Where we have independent hands-on coverage, our summaries anchor to that instead, and say so on the product page.

Expert 3.89/5 3 reviews

Prime Fitness’s Plate Loaded Prone Leg Curl brings the brand’s SmartStrength resistance-profile adjustment to a dedicated hamstring machine, and the small sample of owner ratings collected on the manufacturer’s own site (3.89/5, 3 reviews) points to a solid but unspectacular showing. Build quality is the standout on paper — hand-crafted, made-to-order, USA-manufactured construction in line with the rest of Prime’s commercial-grade plate-loaded line, which independent reviewers elsewhere have called “top-grade.” Versatility is the weakest dimension: five fixed resistance-curve settings add some adjustability, but this is a single-exercise machine with no combo function, unlike Prime’s own Leg Ext/Curl Combo or leg-extension pairing. No independent editorial or video review of this specific model turned up, so treat the verdict as directional rather than exhaustively vetted.

  • +Build quality: hand-crafted, made-to-order, USA-manufactured construction (manufacturer)
  • +Functionality: SmartStrength technology offers 5 resistance-curve settings to target different points in the hamstring curl (manufacturer)
  • +Value: commercial-grade construction consistent with Prime Fitness's plate-loaded line, independently described as "top-grade" (Garage Gym Lab, brand-level)
  • Versatility: single-exercise machine with no leg-extension pairing, unlike Prime's own combo unit (manufacturer)
  • Durability: no long-term owner data — only 3 ratings on the manufacturer's own site
  • Value: premium commercial price point ($3,225) with no independent review to justify it against alternatives
