Precor Leg Extension Selectorized

Buy Now · $4,190.00

The Precor Vitality Series Leg Extension (VSL005BP) is a single-station, selectorized quad-isolation machine built for light-commercial settings – hospitality gyms, multifamily residential facilities, and community centers – rather than a home-gym flagship. A 200 lb weight stack with a 5 lb add-on plate is engaged with a simple lever push, and the seat is set at an angle that lets exercisers fully extend their legs for a complete quad contraction. Multiple adjustable start positions, a self-aligning ankle pad, and a ratcheting back pad let users align the knee to the machine’s pivot point for sound biomechanics and reduced shear force on the joint.

Build quality leans commercial: 11-gauge welded steel tubing, ABEC-rated sealed bearings, 3/4” polished steel guide rods, and glass-fiber-reinforced nylon pulleys back a 10-year frame warranty. It’s a single-exercise machine with no leg-curl function – Precor sells a separate combo unit (VSL027BP) for that – and at roughly $4,190 from an authorized dealer it’s priced for commercial buyers rather than typical home budgets.

What is a Machine?

What a strength machine is

A strength machine guides the resistance along a fixed path so you can train a movement safely, often without a spotter. The main types: selectorized (pick weight with a pin), plate-loaded (add your own plates for a heavier ceiling and better feel), and functional trainers / cable machines (adjustable pulleys for dozens of exercises).

Machines vs. free weights

Machines shine for isolation, safety, and high-rep hypertrophy, and for training hard alone. Free weights build more stabilizer strength and carry over better to sport. Most well-rounded home gyms use a rack and barbell as the core and add one machine — often a cable/functional trainer or a lat-pulldown/row — to fill the gaps.

The sub-types worth knowing

“Machines” covers several categories that barely compete with each other: GHDs for hamstring and posterior-chain work, belt squats for loading the legs without the bar on your back, leg press / hack squat combos for heavy quad volume, reverse hypers for posterior-chain work and lower-back decompression, cable towers and functional trainers for pulling movements, and row machines. Pick the one that fills a gap in what your rack and barbell already do. Almost nobody needs two.

Space and standalone vs. rack-mounted

Most of these come in a standalone version and a cheaper rack-attachment version. The attachment saves floor space and money, but often gives up stability or range of motion — a tradeoff worth checking on the specific product rather than assuming, since it varies a lot between designs.

A note on ratings

Machine listings frequently show a manufacturer’s own on-site rating, which runs high (4.7–5.0 is typical) and sometimes pools reviews across a whole product family rather than the exact configuration you’re buying. Where we have independent hands-on coverage, our summaries anchor to that instead, and say so on the product page.

Precor’s Vitality Series Leg Extension (VSL005BP) is a commercial-grade quad-isolation machine aimed at light-commercial facilities — hospitality gyms, multifamily residential, community centers — rather than a flagship home-gym purchase, and coverage reflects that: GymRadar’s three owner ratings average 4.0/5, and independent editorial write-ups are thin and mostly generic to leg-extension machines as an exercise pattern rather than specific to this SKU. Build quality is the standout dimension — welded 11-gauge steel tubing, ABEC-rated sealed bearings, polished 3/4” guide rods, and glass-fiber-reinforced nylon pulleys back Precor’s reputation for durable commercial equipment — while versatility is the weakest, since this is a single-station isolation machine with no leg-curl or combo function, unlike Precor’s own VSL027BP dual-station unit. At roughly $4,190 from an authorized dealer, it’s priced and built for commercial duty rather than typical home budgets.

  • +Build quality: welded 11-gauge steel tubing, ABEC-rated sealed bearings, 3/4" polished steel guide rods, and glass-fiber-reinforced nylon pulleys (Top Fitness Store spec listing)
  • +Functionality: adjustable start position, self-aligning ankle pad, and a ratcheting back pad for knee-pivot alignment reduce shear force on the knee (Precor VSL005BP sell sheet)
  • +Functionality: low 10 lb starting weight and a 5 lb add-on increment suit rehab and light-load use as well as heavier lifters (Top Fitness Store spec listing)
  • +Durability: backed by a 10-year frame / 5-year parts / 1-year labor warranty typical of Precor's commercial line (Top Fitness Store)
  • Versatility: single-station leg extension only — no leg-curl function, unlike Precor's own combo VSL027BP unit (Precor sell sheet comparison)
  • Value: commercial pricing (~$4,190 new) is well above typical home-gym budgets for a single-exercise machine (Top Fitness Store)
  • Functionality: independent reviewers note the mechanics push the knee joint apart under heavy load, a consideration for form and injury risk (Green Physique)
  • Durability: no independent long-term (multi-year) reliability testing exists for this specific SKU; GymRadar coverage is a thin 3-review sample
