7-GAUGE 3X3 Collegiate Power Rack

The EliteFTS 7-GAUGE 3X3 Collegiate Power Rack is the current build of EliteFTS’s long-running 3X3 Collegiate Power Rack, upgraded to a 3” x 3” frame of 7-gauge American steel for teams, collegiate weight rooms, and commercial floors that put a rack through daily abuse – a meaningfully thicker frame than the 11-gauge version of the same rack EliteFTS still sells under a separate listing. It comes loaded with a reinforced sumo base, laser-cut numbered uprights for accurate and repeatable J-cup placement, band-peg compatibility for dynamic-effort training, an adjustable chin bar, and included J-cups and safety pins. Hole spacing tightens to 1” through the bench zone and opens to 2” elsewhere. It’s made in the USA and fully customizable – powder-coat color, upright numbering, school or team logos, pad materials, and additional attachments – for collegiate and commercial procurement.

What is a Power Rack?

What a power rack is

A power rack is a four-post steel cage with adjustable J-cups and safety pins or straps that catch the bar when a rep fails — so you can squat, bench, and press heavy while training alone. It’s the anchor of a serious home gym: get the rack right and a bench, a barbell, and plates turn into a real strength gym.

What actually matters

  • Upright size & gauge. Bigger tubing with thicker walls means a stiffer rack. 3x3” 11-gauge steel is the durable home-gym standard; 2x3” 11-gauge (Rogue’s Monster Lite tier) is a lighter, cheaper step down that’s still plenty for most lifters. 2x2”/14-gauge entry racks (like REP’s PR-1100) are fine for lighter training and tight budgets.
  • Hardware & hole spacing. Look for 1” “Westside” spacing through the bench and pull zone for fine safety and J-cup height adjustment; numbered uprights make re-racking repeatable. Hardware runs from 3/8” on entry racks to 5/8” (Monster Lite / REP 4000) to oversized 1” (full Monster / REP 5000).
  • Footprint, height & mounting. Measure your ceiling first — a 90”+ rack plus a pull-up bar needs real headroom. Freestanding four-post cages are the default; flat-foot racks stand without bolting (good for renters or finished floors); folding wall-mounted racks reclaim floor space at the cost of some rigidity and attachment depth.
  • Safeties & ecosystem. Strap safeties are gentler on the bar; pin-and-pipe safeties are cheaper and rigid. And a rack is a platform — Rogue and REP both have deep attachment ecosystems, so buying into one hole pattern matters if you’ll add cables, a lat pulldown, or a belt squat later.

Who it’s for

Anyone lifting a barbell alone should own one. Match the rack to your space, budget, and how far you plan to build out — most home lifters are well served by a 3x3” 11-gauge rack in the $400-$1,000 range.

EliteFTS now builds its 3X3 Collegiate Power Rack from 7-gauge American steel – a meaningfully thicker frame than the 11-gauge original the company still sells under a separate listing – and pairs it with the same collegiate-grade feature set: a reinforced sumo base, laser-cut numbered uprights for repeatable J-cup placement, and band-peg compatibility for dynamic-effort work. Build quality is the standout dimension, since the 7-gauge steel is a direct, verifiable upgrade over the prior generation aimed at teams and commercial floors that put a rack through daily abuse. Value is the weakest dimension: near $4,900 it commands a real premium over the 11-gauge version of the same rack, and independent, gauge-specific coverage is essentially nonexistent – what exists is general EliteFTS brand sentiment rather than hands-on reporting on this exact SKU.

  • +Build quality: 3"x3" 7-gauge American steel frame, a direct thickness upgrade over the 11-gauge original EliteFTS 3X3 Collegiate Power Rack (manufacturer product page)
  • +Functionality: laser-cut numbered uprights for accurate, repeatable J-cup placement, plus a reinforced sumo base and band-peg compatibility for dynamic-effort training (manufacturer product page)
  • +Versatility: fully customizable powder-coat color, upright numbering, school/team logos, pad materials, and additional attachments -- built for collegiate and commercial procurement (manufacturer product page)
  • +Durability: general EliteFTS brand sentiment from long-time owners describes the company's racks as "super sturdy" and "well worth the extra $$$" versus budget alternatives (Bodybuilding.com Forums, general EliteFTS rack discussion)
  • Value: at $4,908.79 it prices well above the 11-gauge version of the same rack, positioning it for institutional buyers rather than budget home-gym shoppers (manufacturer product page)
  • Value: no independent review (Garage Gym Reviews, Garage Gym Lab, GymRadar) or YouTube coverage specific to the 7-gauge SKU was found; existing EliteFTS 3X3 rack videos predate this steel upgrade and cover the older 11-gauge generation (knowledge base gathering)
  • Durability: no long-term ownership reports exist yet for the 7-gauge version specifically to confirm how the thicker steel and welds hold up over years of commercial use
