AB 5000 Zero Gap

$549.00
The AB-4100 was REP’s value workhorse before the Nighthawk arrived, and it is still an excellent bench: seven back and three seat positions, a 1.57” pad gap, a low 17” seat height that hits IPF specs, a squared-off 12” CleanGrip pad, and a 700 lb capacity at 85 lb, for $399.99. A closed-ladder design keeps the adjustment from lifting out under load. The newer Nighthawk refines the same recipe; the lighter AB-3100 saves money, and the FID AB-3000 2.0 adds a decline setting.

An adjustable bench tilts from flat to incline (and often decline) so one bench covers flat press, incline press, shoulder work, and rows. It’s usually the second thing people buy after a rack and bar — and the piece you press heavy over, so build quality matters.
Anyone doing barbell or dumbbell pressing at home. A flat bench is enough if you only bench flat; otherwise an adjustable bench is the more versatile buy. Most home lifters are well served in the $400-$600 range.

REP’s AB-4100 punched well above its roughly $400 price: Garage Gym Lab scored it 9.5/10 and Garage Gym Reviews made it their go-to recommendation over the pricier AB-5200, thanks to a tight 1.4-1.57 inch pad gap, seven back angles, and an IPF-compliant 17-inch height. Functionality and value are the standouts — AB-5200-level adjustability at 40 fewer pounds and roughly $100 less — and its built-in vertical storage post was a rare feature at this tier. The main knock is build quality consistency: a batch of units shipped with bent ladder cages, and several r/homegym owners report back-pad wobble that only settles once the hinge bolt is tightened. REP has since discontinued the AB-4100 in favor of the Nighthawk, but remaining-stock and secondhand units are still well regarded.
