The Barbell Bomb is a lightweight foam sleeve that slides onto the end of a barbell, turning any surface into a stationary landmine without a rack, wall, or weight plates to anchor it. Made from a single piece of high-density, non-slip foam, it weighs just 4 ounces and measures about 7” long (5.5” of that sits on the barbell sleeve), so it packs into a gym bag for landmine presses, rows, rotational work, split squats, and lumberjack deadlifts anywhere there’s a barbell. The design was co-developed by AbMat with the inventors of the Gut Wrench, using a spheroid shape and grippy exterior meant to hold its position and rotate smoothly under load. Independent reviews rate it well for setup, storage, and versatility, with its main limitation being stability – the foam’s low weight can let it shift during heavy exercises like barbell rows unless braced against something solid. AbMat also sells a heavier rubber version, the Barbell Bomb HD (2.3 lb), for lifters who prioritize stability over portability.

Color Black
Length 7 in overall (5.5 in occupies the barbell sleeve)

What is a Miscellaneou?

What’s in Miscellaneous

This is the catch-all for the conditioning tools and accessories that don’t fit a single equipment class — weighted vests and plate carriers, medicine and slam balls, plyo boxes, ab mats, and the odds and ends that round out a garage gym. Items land here because their job (loaded carries, jumps, core work) cuts across the categories rather than sitting neatly inside one.

Who it’s for

Anyone filling in the gaps around the big pieces. If you already have a rack, bar, and plates, this is where you find the vest for rucking and weighted push-ups, the ball for slams and wall throws, or the box for step-ups and box jumps. Match the tool to the training you actually do — a plate carrier for conditioning and rucking, plyo boxes for explosive work — rather than buying the whole shelf.

The Barbell Bomb is a foam sleeve that slides onto a barbell sleeve to turn any surface into a stationary landmine, and independent coverage agrees it does that job well for its price and size. Functionality is the standout – it enables the full range of landmine presses, rows, rotational work, and lumberjack deadlifts without a rack, wall, or weight plates to anchor it, and reviewers who compared it to a DIY tennis-ball landmine hack call it clearly superior at gripping the ground and protecting the barbell. The weakest dimension is stability: at just 4 ounces, the foam shell has little mass of its own, so it can shift under heavy forward force (barbell rows in particular) unless it’s braced against something solid – a limitation both the written review and the video review call out independently.

  • +Functionality: enables the full range of landmine exercises -- presses, rows, rotational work, squats, lumberjack deadlifts -- without a rack, wall, or weight plates (GymRadar aggregate; Shredded Dad; YouTube roundup)
  • +Functionality: outperforms a DIY tennis-ball landmine hack at gripping the ground and protecting the barbell sleeve (YouTube: AbMat home gym roundup)
  • +Build quality: high-density, non-slip foam shell won't scratch barbells and is made in the USA (manufacturer; Rogue Fitness listing)
  • +Versatility: works across a range of training surfaces -- grass, wood, tile, laminate, stall mats -- and doubles as a grip-friendly handle on the opposite barbell end for push presses and goblet squats (Shredded Dad; manufacturer)
  • +Value: compact (7" long, 4 oz) and packs into a gym bag, a low-cost alternative to a dedicated landmine attachment (Shredded Dad; Fit at Midlife)
  • Durability: minimal weight (4 oz) means it can shift or walk during heavy exercises, particularly barbell rows, and needs to be braced against something solid on some surfaces (Shredded Dad; YouTube roundup)
  • Build quality: independent coverage rates stability the lowest of the tested dimensions (3.0/5 in the Shredded Dad review) versus setup and storage
  • Value: no community (Reddit) discussion turned up to corroborate long-term durability claims
