The BlackWing is REP’s premium FID bench and their answer to the boutique ladder-style benches. It stacks 12 back-pad angles (from -8° to 85°) against 6 seat angles for 72 combinations, adds REP’s patented ZeroGap seat so there is no gap to fall into on an incline, and rides on an 11-gauge frame rated to 1,000 lb. Reviewers consistently call it “built like a tank,” and it stores upright in about 3 sq ft on its integrated stand.
Buy it if you want the widest adjustment range and a rock-solid incline press. The AB-5000 Zero Gap is the lighter, simpler zero-gap sibling; the Nighthawk is REP’s other flagship; and the AB-3000 2.0 saves money if you can live with a small pad gap.

An adjustable bench tilts from flat to incline (and often decline) so one bench covers flat press, incline press, shoulder work, and rows. It’s usually the second thing people buy after a rack and bar — and the piece you press heavy over, so build quality matters.
Anyone doing barbell or dumbbell pressing at home. A flat bench is enough if you only bench flat; otherwise an adjustable bench is the more versatile buy. Most home lifters are well served in the $400-$600 range.

The BlackWing is REP’s flagship FID bench, and the consensus across five expert reviews and a very active Reddit thread — which routinely pits it against the Manta Ray Adjustable Bench — is that it earns its premium price. Build quality and functionality are the clear standouts: 11-gauge steel, a 1,000 lb capacity, and 72 angle combinations via the patented ZeroGap seat that reviewers repeatedly call best-in-class for eliminating gaps at any incline. The tradeoff is versatility in a practical sense — at 131 lbs it’s heavy and slow to reposition, and the optional leg roller attachment was called “an afterthought” by Breaking Muscle. A couple of Reddit owners also reported out-of-tolerance frames on delivery, resolved by REP customer service — worth flagging as a durability caveat even though it’s not the dominant complaint.
