VTS Feather Barbell

The Feather Barbell is Bulletproof Fitness Equipment’s dedicated accessory bar for its VTS trolley system, not a standalone barbell – it does not fit VTS Lite, which has no slot for the removable weight horns this bar relies on. At 13lb (about 23lb once 5lb weight horns are attached), it’s built to cut the effective starting weight of a VTS pressing setup well below a standard 45lb bar, and to let a VTS rig swap quickly between iso-handle and barbell training without changing any trolley hardware. The 51.5” bar uses a 28.5mm shaft with 96DP diamond knurling on grade 45 steel and hard-chrome plating, rated to 1,000 lb. The lone independent review – a first-look video from Andie PL – calls the swap “smooth” and a “no-brainer” for existing VTS/iso-handle owners, though the knurling reads as less aggressive and less centered than Bulletproof’s own iso handles. GymRadar owners rate it 4.44/5 across 3 ratings, but coverage is thin overall: one first-impressions video and a small owner sample, with no long-term durability data yet.

What is a Barbell?

What a barbell is

The barbell is the center of a strength gym — the bar you squat, press, deadlift, and clean with. A men’s Olympic bar is 20 kg (44 lb) and 7.2 ft long (15 kg / 6.5 ft for women). The specs that matter: knurl (the grip texture — aggressive for pulls, milder for high-rep work), shaft diameter (28–29 mm for barbell lifts), sleeve rotation (bushings are fine for slow lifts; bearings spin fast for the Olympic lifts), tensile strength (~190k+ PSI resists bending), and coating (bare steel grips best but rusts; stainless and Cerakote trade grip for corrosion resistance).

Which one to buy

For general lifting, a multipurpose bar (28–28.5mm shaft, dual knurl marks, no center knurl) does squats, bench, deadlifts, and the occasional clean off one bar — this is the right first barbell for most home gyms. Choose a dedicated power bar (29mm, stiffer, aggressive center-knurl grip) only once you know you’re training squat/bench/deadlift specifically and want the stiffest, grippiest tool for that job. A dedicated Olympic weightlifting bar (needle bearings, more whip) is worth it only if you clean, snatch, or jerk regularly.

Beyond your main bar, specialty bars solve specific problems rather than replacing it: a safety squat bar shifts load off sore shoulders, a trap/hex bar takes stress off a cranky lower back on pulls, and a curl bar’s camber reduces wrist strain on isolation work. Add them once you know which problem you actually have.

The Feather Barbell is a purpose-built accessory bar for Bulletproof’s VTS trolley system: at 13lb (about 23lb once VTS weight horns are attached) it slashes the effective starting weight of any pressing or overhead movement done on the trolleys, and the only independent review calls the swap between iso handles and barbell “smooth” and a “no-brainer” for anyone already in the VTS ecosystem. Its weakest dimension is build quality — knurling is less aggressive and less centered than Bulletproof’s own iso handles — and there’s no durability track record yet, since coverage is limited to a single first-impressions video and a small GymRadar sample.

  • +Functionality: cuts the effective starting weight on a VTS trolley setup to roughly 13-23lb versus a standard 45lb bar, which reviewers say benefits smaller lifters and anyone managing training volume (YouTube: Andie PL)
  • +Versatility: lets a VTS setup switch quickly between iso-handle and barbell pressing movements without swapping trolley hardware (YouTube: Andie PL)
  • +Value: pairing weight horns with the Feather Barbell reportedly costs less than buying a dedicated third-party bar (e.g. Rogue's Stump Bar) for the same VTS use case (YouTube: Andie PL)
  • +Build quality: grade 45 steel with hard chrome plating and a 1,000lb capacity feel appropriate for the accessory's price point (manufacturer; YouTube: Andie PL)
  • Build quality: knurling is noticeably less aggressive and less grippy than Bulletproof's own iso handles, with off-center knurl marks rather than a full center mark (YouTube: Andie PL)
  • Durability: no long-term testing exists yet — the only independent review is a first-impressions video shot the day after unboxing (YouTube: Andie PL)
  • Versatility: only compatible with the full VTS system, not VTS Lite, so it has no use outside that specific rack ecosystem (manufacturer)
  • Value: an early buyer reported a months-long shipping delay and a landed cost far above the current listed price, since the bar ships from overseas (YouTube: Andie PL)
