Buy NowThe Troy Wide Flanged Plate is a traditional cast-iron Olympic plate, sold individually across seven weights (2.5, 5, 10, 25, 35, 45, and 100 lb) rather than as a matched set, so it works well for filling out an existing collection in a home or commercial gym. It’s machined on the rims, sides, back, and center to hold a 2% weight-accuracy tolerance – well ahead of the 5%+ swings common on unmachined economy iron – and finished in a baked Hammertone Gray enamel. The wide flange (deep dish rim) is the design’s namesake feature: a broader gripping edge than narrow-rim iron plates, which Two Rep Cave ranks as Troy’s best standard plate line for that reason. The 45 lb plate is machined to the IPF-standard 450mm diameter, matching what competition and calibrated plates use. It fits all standard 2” Olympic bars and shafts.

Weight plates load your barbell — but “plate” covers two very different tools. Bumper plates are rubber discs around a steel hub, all the same ~450mm diameter, built to be dropped from overhead without damaging your floor or bar; they’re the default for Olympic lifting and CrossFit. Iron/steel plates are denser and thinner per pound, cheaper, and quieter to load, but most aren’t made to be dropped — better for slow, controlled powerlifting-style work.
Every barbell gym needs plates. Most home lifters should start with a bumper set, then add iron, change, or specialty plates as a second purchase once they know what their training is missing.

The Troy Wide Flanged Plate is a traditional cast-iron Olympic plate line – sold individually from 2.5 to 100 lb – that Two Rep Cave ranks as Troy’s best standard model, standing out on build quality: full machining on the rims, sides, back, and center holds it to a 2% weight-accuracy tolerance versus the 5%+ swings common on economy plates, and the wider flange improves grip and drop-safety over narrow-rim iron. GymRadar’s small owner sample (7 reviews, 4.48/5) echoes that, rating performance and build quality highest and value its weakest dimension (4.14/5) – expected for a mid-tier line priced above bargain iron. Independent coverage beyond one editorial comparison and a handful of owner ratings is thin, so treat the verdict as solid but not exhaustively vetted.
