The CB-1 is Rogue’s fully-welded, fully-rackable cambered bar, built for lifters who want more out of posterior-chain training than a straight bar delivers. The shaft sits farther forward of the midline than a standard bar, so the load leans toward the hamstrings and lower back while letting the upper body stay upright – that forward lean also means the bar swings slightly as you move, giving real-time feedback on stability that helps correct squat form. Because it’s rackable (unlike older, non-rackable camber bars built for monolifts), it works with any standard power rack, squat stand, or Rig rather than needing dedicated equipment.

Beyond back squats, it’s a popular tool for good mornings, Zercher squats, box squats, loaded carries, and even bench press, and the low, flat hand positions it allows make it a shoulder-friendly alternative for lifters who can’t comfortably grip a straight bar. The tradeoff is a bare shaft with no knurling or center markings, so owners typically improvise their own back-position reference, and standard barbell collars don’t reliably fit – Rogue recommends its own Axle Collars.

What is a Barbell?

What a barbell is

The barbell is the center of a strength gym — the bar you squat, press, deadlift, and clean with. A men’s Olympic bar is 20 kg (44 lb) and 7.2 ft long (15 kg / 6.5 ft for women). The specs that matter: knurl (the grip texture — aggressive for pulls, milder for high-rep work), shaft diameter (28–29 mm for barbell lifts), sleeve rotation (bushings are fine for slow lifts; bearings spin fast for the Olympic lifts), tensile strength (~190k+ PSI resists bending), and coating (bare steel grips best but rusts; stainless and Cerakote trade grip for corrosion resistance).

Which one to buy

For general lifting, a multipurpose bar (28–28.5mm shaft, dual knurl marks, no center knurl) does squats, bench, deadlifts, and the occasional clean off one bar — this is the right first barbell for most home gyms. Choose a dedicated power bar (29mm, stiffer, aggressive center-knurl grip) only once you know you’re training squat/bench/deadlift specifically and want the stiffest, grippiest tool for that job. A dedicated Olympic weightlifting bar (needle bearings, more whip) is worth it only if you clean, snatch, or jerk regularly.

Beyond your main bar, specialty bars solve specific problems rather than replacing it: a safety squat bar shifts load off sore shoulders, a trap/hex bar takes stress off a cranky lower back on pulls, and a curl bar’s camber reduces wrist strain on isolation work. Add them once you know which problem you actually have.

The CB-1 is Rogue’s fully-rackable cambered bar, and its functionality is the standout: the forward-swinging camber gives real-time feedback on squat form (drift onto your toes and the bar tells you immediately) while letting lifters with cranky shoulders rest their hands low and flat instead of gripping a straight bar, and it’s versatile enough for squats, good mornings, Zercher squats, loaded carries, and even bench press. Build quality backs that up – a fully-welded 1.5” solid steel shaft, machined Olympic sleeves, and a powder coat users call “really nice and very grippy,” tested to 1,000 lb. The clearest weak point is value: GymRadar’s independent owner sample rates it lowest on value (3.83/5) of its three sub-scores, and the shaft’s total lack of knurling or center markings – flagged independently by both a dedicated YouTube review and an outside blog – means owners have to improvise their own back-position reference with tape. It’s not a bar for beginners or cramped garage racks with a standard SB-1 safety squat bar already covering the shoulder-friendly use case, but for lifters who want the extra posterior-chain emphasis and form feedback, it’s a well-built, if pricier-than-it-feels, specialty bar.

  • +Functionality: forward-swinging camber gives real-time stability feedback and corrects squat form mistakes as they happen (YouTube: The Strength Classroom)
  • +Functionality: versatile across squats, good mornings, Zercher squats, loaded carries, and bench press; low hand placement gives shoulders a break versus a straight bar (YouTube: The Strength Classroom, Rogue Fitness demo)
  • +Build quality: fully-welded 1.5" solid steel shaft with machined Olympic sleeves, tested to 1,000 lb; powder coat finish described as "really nice and very grippy" (Rogue Fitness, Garage Gym Lab)
  • +Durability: users report the powder coat resists chipping and scratching (Garage Gym Lab)
  • +Value: one of the more popular cambered squat bars on the market for its price-to-quality ratio (Life Through Lifting)
  • Value: GymRadar's independent owner sample scores it lowest on value (3.83/5) of its three sub-ratings, versus 4.67 for performance and 4.33 for build quality (GymRadar)
  • Functionality: no knurling or center markings on the shaft, so the bar can slide slightly on the back and owners have to mark their own reference points (YouTube: The Strength Classroom, Life Through Lifting)
  • Versatility: not recommended for new lifters -- the offset weight and swing add a layer of instability beginners don't need (Life Through Lifting)
  • Build quality: standard barbell collars may not fit; Rogue recommends dedicated Axle Collars, an added cost/compatibility wrinkle (Rogue Fitness)
