Buy NowThe CAP Rubber Olympic Bumper Plate is CAP Barbell’s economy-tier bumper plate, manufactured from a mix of virgin and recycled rubber with a reinforced steel hub, sold in six weight options from 10 lb (as a pair) up to 55 lb (single) with a standard 2” Olympic sleeve bore. It’s a budget entry point into bumper plates rather than a competition-grade plate: GymRadar owners rate it 3.88/5 across 8 reviews, driven by a standout 5.00/5 Value score since it’s commonly found for under $1/lb, but Build Quality lags at 3.13/5 – stamped (not molded) lettering, an oily residue out of the box, and a persistent rubber odor are recurring complaints. Durability splits by weight: owners report the 25 lb and 45 lb plates holding up well over 6+ months, while the lighter 10 lb and 15 lb plates are more prone to bending or warping. Three independent YouTube reviews are uniformly positive on balance, low bounce, and secure bar fit. It’s a reasonable way to cheaply bulk up an existing plate collection rather than a long-term primary set.

Weight plates load your barbell — but “plate” covers two very different tools. Bumper plates are rubber discs around a steel hub, all the same ~450mm diameter, built to be dropped from overhead without damaging your floor or bar; they’re the default for Olympic lifting and CrossFit. Iron/steel plates are denser and thinner per pound, cheaper, and quieter to load, but most aren’t made to be dropped — better for slow, controlled powerlifting-style work.
Every barbell gym needs plates. Most home lifters should start with a bumper set, then add iron, change, or specialty plates as a second purchase once they know what their training is missing.

| Youtube | 4.5/5 | 3 reviews | Elite Product Pros' 45 lb review praises the balance (steel hub keeps the plate centered, doesn't roll) and easy on/off slide. Rachel Reviews It calls them "an incredible buy" -- uniform, low-bounce, solid, "no reason to buy any other weight." Dianey Noriega's 3-month-owner review reports durability, a secure steel center on the bar, and a quieter workout from the rubber coating. All three are strongly positive with no negatives surfaced. |
The CAP Rubber Olympic Bumper Plate is a budget bumper built for garage gyms that need functional weight without spending much – GymRadar’s 8-review sample rates it 3.88/5, driven almost entirely by a standout Value score (5.00/5), since owners consistently find it for under $1/lb. Its weakest dimension is Build Quality (3.13/5): the weight numbers are stamped rather than molded into the rubber, plates arrive with an oily residue, and several owners report the lighter 10 lb and 15 lb plates warping within months, while the heavier 25 lb and 45 lb plates have held up well over 6+ months. It’s a reasonable way to bulk up an existing set cheaply rather than a long-term primary set.
