The Darko Lifting Shorty Bar is a short multipoint cable attachment built for lat pulldowns, seated rows, and landmine rows. Eight adjustment points on each side let lifters attach their own D-handles at whatever width feels most anatomically correct, rather than being locked into a single fixed-position bar, and it can be flipped over to work as a curved landmine attachment. It’s made from 3/8” steel with a black acetal barbell liner that protects sleeves and weight plates, and it’s designed, manufactured, and assembled in the USA in small batches. D-handles and carabiners are sold separately; a longer sibling version (the Longy Bar) is also available.

What is a Cable Attachment?

What cable attachments are

Cable attachments are the handles and bars that clip to a cable machine, functional trainer, or lat/row station to change the exercise — lat bars, triceps ropes, single-D handles, row/close-grip handles, ankle straps, and more. A small set of them turns one cable stack into dozens of movements.

What to look for

A rotating swivel or ball-bearing joint keeps the cable from twisting and lets the handle track your arm; comfortable, durable grips (knurled metal, rubber, or coated nylon) survive heavy use; and a standard carabiner or snap fits most machines. Match the attachment to the exercises you actually train rather than buying a giant kit you won’t use.

Darko Lifting’s Shorty Bar earns its reputation as a foundational cable attachment: its standout dimension is versatility – eight adjustment points per side let lifters dial in an anatomically correct hand width for lat pulldowns, seated rows, and curls, and flipping the bar over turns it into a curved landmine attachment, all with whatever D-handles the lifter already owns. Three independent YouTube reviewers converge on the same praise for build quality – 3/8” steel, a protective acetal barbell liner, and hand-finished USA assembly – calling it “extremely well done” and a piece that “feels very stable.” Functionality is strong too, though one reviewer noted the flipped landmine position slightly limits range of motion versus a fixed-position bar, and another found the landmine mode less useful than dedicated attachments without standing on plates. Durability is the weakest dimension: this is a small-batch product from a niche maker with no long-term teardown or defect history, and one reviewer flagged that the plastic liner marked up his bumper plates during landmine work. Value at $155 lands as fair to reviewers given the hand-assembled construction, though it’s a premium price for a single cable-attachment bar next to cheaper alternatives.

  • +Versatility: eight adjustment points per side let lifters pick an anatomically correct hand width for lat pulldowns, rows, curls, and tricep work, and the bar flips to work as a landmine attachment too (manufacturer; YouTube: GoreckiFit)
  • +Build quality: 3/8" steel construction with a black acetal barbell liner to protect sleeves and plates, described by reviewers as 'extremely well done' and feeling 'very stable' in use (manufacturer; YouTube: Vast Strength)
  • +Functionality: works with any D-handle or attachment the lifter already owns rather than being locked to proprietary hardware, letting it grow as a home gym's cable setup expands (YouTube: Vast Strength)
  • +Functionality: lower attachment point than fixed cable bars gives taller lifters more range of motion on lat pulldowns and chest-supported rows (YouTube: Vast Strength)
  • +Value: at $155 for USA-manufactured, hand-assembled construction, reviewers consider it a fair price relative to comparable options like Bare Steel's Iron Cross or Prime Fitness's Shorty Bar (YouTube: GoreckiFit)
  • Durability: no independent long-term teardown or defect history exists for this small-batch, niche-brand product (web research aggregate)
  • Durability: one reviewer noted the plastic barbell liner marked up his bumper plates during landmine use, though he called it a minor, solvable issue with a spacer (YouTube: Vast Strength)
  • Functionality: flipping the bar for landmine work adds length versus a fixed-position attachment, slightly limiting range of motion on pulldowns done in the same session, and one reviewer found the landmine mode less useful without standing on plates (YouTube: GoreckiFit; YouTube: Strength & Steel Reviews)
  • Value: a custom-color order took unusually long to arrive for one reviewer, though he noted black likely ships faster and Rogue's newer partnership may have streamlined fulfillment (YouTube: Strength & Steel Reviews)
