The Rogue MG-4CN Narrow Multi Grip Camber Bar is a fully adjustable multi-grip barbell built around a cambered, 41” rackable frame (7.1” outside / 5” inside width, 3.5” camber depth) made in the USA from 1” x 2” 11-gauge steel. It ships standard with two pairs of 32mm knurled handles – one set angled at 12 degrees, one at 16 degrees – that thread into holes spaced 1” apart along the frame, letting lifters position handles anywhere from 6” to 26” apart to dial in grip width and angle for presses, rows, and accessory work. A redesigned sleeve system can be switched between locked (zero rotation, for maximum pressing stability) and unlocked (free-spinning, like a standard barbell) using an included Allen wrench, addressing the stability complaints leveled at the original MG-4C. Sleeves come in a short 9” or standard 15.5” loadable length, both keeping the standard 51.5” distance between sleeves so the bar racks on any standard rig, rack, stand, or bench; the frame and handles are each available in a Proprietary Matte Black or Stainless Steel finish, and straight or 20-degree handles can be added a la carte alongside the included 12- and 16-degree pairs.

What is a Barbell?

What a barbell is

The barbell is the center of a strength gym — the bar you squat, press, deadlift, and clean with. A men’s Olympic bar is 20 kg (44 lb) and 7.2 ft long (15 kg / 6.5 ft for women). The specs that matter: knurl (the grip texture — aggressive for pulls, milder for high-rep work), shaft diameter (28–29 mm for barbell lifts), sleeve rotation (bushings are fine for slow lifts; bearings spin fast for the Olympic lifts), tensile strength (~190k+ PSI resists bending), and coating (bare steel grips best but rusts; stainless and Cerakote trade grip for corrosion resistance).

Which one to buy

For general lifting, a multipurpose bar (28–28.5mm shaft, dual knurl marks, no center knurl) does squats, bench, deadlifts, and the occasional clean off one bar — this is the right first barbell for most home gyms. Choose a dedicated power bar (29mm, stiffer, aggressive center-knurl grip) only once you know you’re training squat/bench/deadlift specifically and want the stiffest, grippiest tool for that job. A dedicated Olympic weightlifting bar (needle bearings, more whip) is worth it only if you clean, snatch, or jerk regularly.

Beyond your main bar, specialty bars solve specific problems rather than replacing it: a safety squat bar shifts load off sore shoulders, a trap/hex bar takes stress off a cranky lower back on pulls, and a curl bar’s camber reduces wrist strain on isolation work. Add them once you know which problem you actually have.

The Rogue MG-4CN is a highly configurable multi-grip camber bar built around swappable handle angles (straight, 12°, 16°, 20°), adjustable handle spacing (6”-26”), and sleeves that lock for stability or unlock to spin like a standard barbell. Versatility is the standout dimension – reviewers consistently praise the ability to dial in handle width and angle to their own shoulders, and several call it the first multi-grip bar that actually solved long-standing fit and wobble complaints with the category, particularly for pressing and rowing variations. Value is the weakest dimension: the $395 base price climbs quickly with extra handle sets and the stainless-steel upgrade (+$120), pushing a fully loaded build toward $650-700, and one reviewer flagged a visible gap where a sleeve nut seated unevenly against the frame – Rogue’s support called it within spec, but it’s a real build-quality wrinkle worth knowing about even though it caused no functional imbalance in testing.

  • +Versatility: fully adjustable handle angle (straight/12°/16°/20°), diameter, and spacing (6"-26") lets lifters tune grip to their own shoulders and switch between pressing and rowing work (YouTube: TheJungleGymReviews, YouTube: Home Gym Hacks and Reviews)
  • +Functionality: lockable sleeves add stability for traditional pressing while still allowing free rotation when preferred, addressing the #1 complaint about the original MG-4C (Rogue product page; r/homegym)
  • +Build quality: 11-gauge steel frame, 200K PSI tensile strength, and Ohio Bar-pattern knurling rated among the best on any multi-grip bar (Garage Gym Reviews; YouTube: TheJungleGymReviews)
  • +Functionality: 3.5" camber depth gives a deeper stretch and greater range of motion on presses versus a straight bar, and the narrow 5" inside width improves rack maneuverability over the original wider MG-4C (Rogue product page; YouTube: Home Gym Hacks and Reviews)
  • +Value: community buyers who caught sale pricing (~$225-360) rate it a clear step up from cheaper multi-grip bars from Titan, Rep, and Bells of Steel (r/homegym; YouTube: TheJungleGymReviews)
  • Value: full price ($395 base) escalates quickly -- extra handle sets and the stainless-steel upgrade (+$120) can push a fully-loaded bar to $650-700 (Garage Gym Reviews; YouTube: TheJungleGymReviews)
  • Build quality: one reviewer found a visible, uneven gap where a sleeve nut seated against the frame on one side; Rogue support called it within spec and it caused no functional balance issue in testing, but it went unresolved (YouTube: Home Gym Hacks and Reviews)
  • Versatility: hole placement near the welded camber section and bar ends limits practical grip width to roughly 3-4 usable configurations at a time, not the full theoretical range (r/homegym)
  • Durability: the matte black powder-coat finish shows scuffs, skin marks, and scratches noticeably within a few months of regular use, though the coating itself doesn't wear through (YouTube: TheJungleGymReviews)
  • Functionality: less suited to overhead pressing and strict-form accessory work (curls, tricep extensions) than to flat/incline pressing and rows, since the angled handles reduce hand support versus a straight bar (YouTube: TheJungleGymReviews, YouTube: Home Gym Hacks and Reviews)
